This morning

The three older children completed their math pages as usual. Toby’s had premultiplication grouping concepts, Samuel did 3 digit subtraction, with plenty of borrowing needed. Elsie completed a phonics page focusing on initial sounds.

Is this yours?

I found this note on the floor of the kitchen. If it belongs to you, now you know what happened to it. I like the polite request, don’t you? What are the strange signs after the names?

Shh..It’s a surprise

I have been given a ticket to a surprise performance that the children are planning (see fig. 1) They have been practicing it the last couple days. I know it is about vampires, and I have been shown some of the costumes, and asked whether Little Red could donate the use of his reptile lamp as a spotlight during the performance. I’m hoping that the surprise part comes in because this time the children have gone beyond snappy dialogue and actually come up with a plot for one of their plays…

Poetry

July 13th, 2005

We started something new this week. We instituted a ‘poetry night’ on Thursdays, and have each chosen a poem to perform for the family. Elsie chose a limerick, and has it memorized already.Moriah and Toby have a humorous selection as well. I am working with those three, giving suggestions on expression, projection, and characterization where needed. Raquel is working with Samuel and Peter, by their request. Samuel said “Aunt Raquel has some really cool poems.” Samuel’s choice is going to be a suprise. Peter has a short poem. I have chosen one of my favorite poems titled (if my memory serves me properly) “A Hole in the Floor”.
