Life has been occurring at a fast clip around here. The children have been discovering so much, I’d better get a learning update in, or I shall fall hopelessly behind.
Obviously, we had a baby. In preparation for labor and birth, we read books, talked, and watched a National Geographic video. All the children have a pretty good handle on how a baby grows and is born, and can talk knowledgeably about placentas and such.
In other medical news, I had a surprise appendectomy. When I got home from the hospital, we pulled out the anatomy charts and all the children had a quick review of the digestive system and learned about the appendix!
Moriah and Samuel got interested in Egyptian hieroglyphs, and we got some books from the library to read. Want to see what your name looks like in hieroglyphics? Check it out here.
. We did!
My sister told me about a fun phonics website, and Peter has enjoyed the interactive lessons there very much. He is sounding out some words now!
The three older children are studying volume in their math books. I like how Singapore Math covers both liters and gallons. With all the measuring going on for math, our floor has been flooded with water frequently. Thankfully, they are now moving into the section on bar graphs, which is much less likely to make one slip and fall.
Moriah and Toby have been doing some reading on the Holocaust, so we had Netflix sent us Paper Clips, about a school that made a Holocaust Memorial and what they learned along the way. Moriah really liked the movie, and wants to visit the memorial sometime.
Another documentary we watched that prompted some discussion was Aliens of the Deep. Samuel was especially excited about the NASA expedition to Europa. Will they find someday find life in the oceans of this moon of Jupiter?
Well, for sure it’s not hard to find life around here. There’s plenty of it to go around, and it’s never dull!
