New Shoes!!

My new Simple Shoes came in the mail today. Everyone should love my new shoes because:
1. They are chocolate colored. Chocolate is wonderful!
2. The soles are made out of used tires and the uppers are environmentally friendly, too. All shoes should be this friendly.
3. They resist the temptation to be trendy or decorative. Ugly is part of their attraction!
4. They are comfortable and fit me. This is hard for a shoe to do with my W-I-D-E feet, and they should be admired for this.
5. There is a gratuitous cute baby image in my new shoes photo.

In addition to all this, they were deeply discounted, with free shipping. Aren’t my new shoes grand?

How did you know they would be wide enough? I see a pair of sneakers I’d like to have, but I see nothing about width, and you inherited your wide feet from me (EEEEE).

I like the idea. I think car-tire soles would really wear (and wear, and wear, and . . .) If the uppers wore out, there’s always duct tape.

Yes, I know from whence my wide feet came. And I’m pretty sure that the shoes would not work for you. The reason that they fit me so well (which I left out of the post) is that I ordered a men’s size, which comes wider than women’s sizes. This trick obviously would not work for you. However, if you have some car tires hanging around, and the inclination, you could make your own..

I am intrigued with the idea of making shoes, especially since I am so hard to fit, but haven’t tried it yet. Raquel has dabbled in shoemaking, though.

I have also thought about it, and I’ve thought about using old tire treads as the soles. This was done in the late ’60’s to early ’70’s by hippie types making sandals. I think they stole the idea from poor Mexicans who found that tires make long-lasting sandals.

I’ve seen pictures of Raquel’s duct-tape “ballet slippers” and they are neat. I think I’d want something with more substance to it, however. Sandals do not offer enough protection to my feet, which are still pretty sensitive to abrasion. I once thought of making the body of the shoe out of nylon screen which would be cool (as in “airy”), but would still protect my feet from accidental scrapes.
