Make your own shoelaces!
OK, so maybe you haven’t felt the yen to make your own shoelaces, but just in case you have, here’s the article I wrote on said subject:
Knit your own I-Cord shoelaces
Don’t waste another moment decrying the sad state of shoelaces these days, grab some dpn’s and DO something about it. I had a lot of fun with this project, and it is appropriate for new knitters.

Hi Theresa,
I’ve recently taken up knitting, but haven’t knitted much. My projects have been a hat, scarf, and dishcloth. I really want to try socks or something in the round. Where is a good place to start with that?

Knitting in the round is not a mystery at all. I doubt you will have a problem with it. Socks have some odd quirks with the shaping involved, but I love socks for that sculptural quality. Children’s socks are a nice place to start for a quicker project to understand sock structure. Or you could start with tube socks to get used to knitting around and around, then move on to a traditional sock pattern. Have fun with it!
